From a Good Idea, to a Patent, to a Revolutionary New Payment System for Restaurants.
While in College, two friends grew tired of arguing amongst their friends over restaurant bills; who ordered what, how much do we tip etc. In addition, why did we have to wait so long for the server to run back and forth with our check? From these headaches, the idea for CheckMate was born. No more arguing as each person can select and pay for their own items; friction removed, problem solved!
In brain-storming CheckMate, we came up with email receipts, a Groupon like local deals system and various other concepts, all of which were way ahead of their time. We were able to secure a patent on the bill splitting portion of our idea, which became US Patent # 7,370,794.
To best market CheckMate, we created a motion graphics demo showing how simple our app and device was to use. This demo caught the attention of Viableware who was working on a similar system.
Viableware ended up acquiring the CheckMate technology in 2011, now branded as RAIL, and the rest is history in the making. Look for an easier way to pay your bill at your favorite restaraunt... coming soon!
